As editor of New Car Test Drive, Mitch McCullough is constantly re-evaluating vehicles and updating reviews to add depth.

In 1987, McCullough quit his job as a newspaper reporter in Virginia to work for the Jim Russell racing school. He raced Formula Russells for two years at Riverside International Raceway before accepting a position at a public relations agency, working on a major car account and heading up a tire account. In the ensuing years, he managed public relations for three different car companies.

Now a full-time automotive journalist, McCullough has written articles for national automotive magazines and major metropolitan newspapers. He covered Winston Cup and professional sportscar racing for AutoWeek magazine and reviewed trucks and SUVs for Field & Stream. McCullough has served as president of the Washington Automotive Press Association and currently serves as a juror for the North American Car of the Year award.

Driving his modified four-wheel-drive Mazda 323 GTX, McCullough won the California Rally Series championship in 1993 and was named Rookie of the Year. He went on to win the SCCA Southern Pacific Division Pro Rally championship in 1994. He has raced showroom stock cars in both SCCA and semi-pro series and has completed courses at most of the major professional racing schools.

McCullough is an avid fly fisherman. Originally from Charlottesville, Virginia, he was graduated from Washington State University with a degree in communications. He has worked in Detroit and Washington, and is now based in the Los Angeles area.
